Reka emerged from stealth on 27 June 2023.6, 8
Press reports describe it as founded by researchers from DeepMind, Google, Baidu and Meta, and the founders include Dani Yogatama, Yi Tay and Cyprien de Masson d'Autume.1, 6, 7, 8
On 12 February 2024 it introduced Reka Flash, a multimodal and multilingual language model, together with a smaller variant, Reka Edge.10
A technical report submitted in April 2024 describes Reka Core, Flash and Edge as a series of multimodal language models trained from scratch.2
On 10 March 2025 Reka open-sourced a research preview of a new version of Reka Flash 3, a 21 billion parameter model.3
Its terms say it may publish model weights, such as open-weight versions of Reka Edge, and the Reka Flash 3 model card lists the Apache 2.0 license.3, 4, 5
On 9 June 2026 Reka announced that it had joined forces with Moonvalley, adding a team of AI researchers and engineers.1
