Baichuan

Baichuan Intelligence was founded on 24 March 2023 in Beijing by Wang Xiaochuan, the former chief executive officer of Sogou, and he remains chief executive officer as of July 2026.^{1, 2, 6, 7}

The company states, in Chinese, that its mission is to help the public obtain world knowledge and professional services easily and inclusively.¹

Within 100 days of its founding it released the open-source Baichuan-7B and Baichuan-13B models, and Baichuan-7B was announced in mid-June 2023.^1, 8

Baichuan 2, in 7B and 13B sizes, followed on 6 September 2023, with a technical report on arXiv later that month.^11, 12

The API platform lists the Baichuan4 series, including Baichuan4-Turbo and Baichuan4-Air.^13, 14

In April 2025 Wang Xiaochuan told staff the company would concentrate on medical AI, and its work has since centred on healthcare.^3, 4

The medical Baichuan-M line includes M1, reported on arXiv in February 2025, and M3, reported in February 2026.^15, 16

Baichuan-M4 and the Baixiaoyi agent were presented in May 2026, and M4 was shown in oncology and paediatrics settings at WAIC in July 2026.^4, 6

Baichuan-M3-235B is released with open weights under Apache 2.0, and the API platform is operated from Beijing, with personal information collected in China stored in China.^{2, 5, 9, 10}
